SCSU Women’s Hockey Adds Late Transfer Avery Farrell

St. Cloud, MN – St. Cloud State University women’s hockey has added some additional scoring punch with the late transfer of  Rogers, MN native Avery Farrell.  SCSU hockey announced the addition via press release on August 8.

The 5’4″ 20-year-old right-shooting forward is a transfer from Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, New Hampshire) where she skated for one season. Franklin Pierce is a New England Hockey Alliance member, a seven-team hockey-only Division I conference.  The Ravens finished the 2022-23 season with an 18-15-3 overall record and a 15-9-3 conference e record. Farrell had a highly successful rookie season posting 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points in 36 games. She was the team leader in points scored, netted three power-play goals, and was plus 9 in plus/minus. For her efforts, she was voted to the NEHA All-Rookie team following te 2022-23 season.

Prior to Franklin Pierce, Farrell was a four-year regular on the Rogers (MN) High School squad posting 48 goals and 51 assists for 99 points in 92 games. She was named team MVP in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. A multi-sport athlete, Farrell lettered four times in hockey, three times in soccer, twice in tennis, and once in golf.

On joining the Huskies Farrell stated “I’m very excited to be joining the Huskies and being a part of their strong and competitive program. All of the coaches were really welcoming and helpful as I was choosing a school which really stood out to me. I can’t wait for what’s to come, go Huskies.”

Under Co-Western Collegiate Hockey Association Coach of the Year, Brian Idalski’s guidance, the Huskies tied a program record with 18 wins, going 18-18-1 with an 11-16-1 mark in WCHA play – establishing a new program record with 36 conference points to finish fifth, standing as the Huskies’ best conference finish since 2015-16 and marking just the second time the program has earned a top-five conference finish in the last 13 years. The club’s 18 wins were the most since SCSU won 18 games in 2007-08 while their 11 conference wins stand as the third-most in program history, one shy of their total from the past three seasons combined and most since 2009-10. St. Cloud State doubled their win total from 2021-22, their best mark since 2009-10 – establishing a program record for the three-point era.
