St. Cloud, MN – You know you’ve been following a hockey program for a long time when you see former players’ kids commit to their alma mater. In June, Leo Gruba, the son of former Husky Tony Gruba (1990-94) committed to Brett Larson and the Huskies. On October 20th, forward Jack Reimann, the son of former Husky defender Dan Reimann (1992-96) and teammate of Tony Gruba decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and play for the Huskies.

The 20-year-old Reimann announced via Twitter “Words cannot describe how proud and honored I am to announce my commitment to further my hockey and academic career at St. Cloud State University. I would like to thank my parents, family, friends, coaches, teammates, and God for helping me turn my dreams into reality.”

Contrary to his father who was a physical, 6’1″ 205-pound defenseman, Jack is a smaller version at 6’0″ 192 pounds and is a right-shooting forward. The native of Ham Lake, MN played his high school hockey at Blaine (MN) High School logging 73 games over three seasons netting 20 goals and adding 40 assists for 60 points. He also accumulated 33 points in 36 games over two seasons in the Minnesota High School elite League.

Reimann was drafted #78th overall in the 2021 USHL  Entry Draft and 51st overall in the 2022 NAHL Entry Draft. In 2020-21 he produced 10 goals, 18 points, and 59 PIM in 49 games for the St. Cloud Norsemen of the NAHL. Last season he produced 20 points and 30 PIM in 62 games for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL. In 2022-23 he started the season in Sioux Falls but was acquired via trade by the Muskegon Lumberjacks.

Muskegon head coach Mike Hamilton noted  “He’s a really good face-off guy and has lots of speed, and those are two areas we feel we can improve on,” Hamilton said. “He’s also an older guy who’s been in the league, and that adds some veteran presence. We’re excited to have him.”

Neutral Zone, an amateur scouting service describes “Reimann is a bit understated but a highly effective 200 ft forward who can play in every situation. He is strong on the puck along the boards and comes out of scrums with possession. He has a power element to his game where he can shield the puck down low below the dots and skate through checks, but he’s also got the skill to get around defenders and the release and velocity to score from beyond the dots. Defensively he plays an honest game, he keeps his stick down with good positioning, he stops on the puck, he plays the body, and shadows the opponent without letting them breakaway or get behind him. He’s not a puck watcher, he’s diligent in his coverage and when there is a 50/50 puck he closes quickly and uses his body to separate and gain possession.”

Reimann may not turn out to be a prolific scorer but has many other elements to his game that make him attractive as a player. His size, speed, energy, defensive play, and ability to win faceoffs make him a valuable addition for the Huskies in 2023-24.

Word is Reimann was also being recruited by the University of Massachusetts of Hockey East.

It’s also nice to see the Reimann legacy continue at St. Cloud State.
