St. Cloud, MN – It’s a homecoming of sorts for Erick Zamora who was recently named Director of Operations for St. Cloud’s North American Hockey League (NAHL) franchise, the St. Cloud Norsemen. A former SCSU student, Zamora had plans to become a teacher but made an about-face and transferred to Brown University to obtain a degree in radio broadcasting.

According to the Norsemen press release, Zamora served as Media Relations and the play-by-play voice of the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United State Hockey League for four seasons. He is making the move to St. Cloud from Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he served as the Program Director of Newsradio 600 WMT and sports talk AM 800 KXIC, and the afternoon drive voice for 96.5 Kiss Country. Another bit of trivia is that Zamora worked for the Iowa Barnstormers of the IFL (Indoor Football League) as the Game Day Operations Director for one season and two seasons as Audio/Music Director.

In their August 12th press release, Norsemen owner Chris Canavati announced “We are pleased to welcome Erick to the Norsemen team. We believe his experience, passion, and love of the game will help us continue to build the Norsemen brand in St. Cloud and provide our fans an incredible gameday experience.”

As Director of Operations, his duties will be extensive. Zamora explained, “I’m basically the face of the franchise. I’ll be doing play-by-play for road games, interacting with fans and scouts, and directing traffic during home games. I’ll Promote and market the team, get them out in the community, and make sure St. Cloud knows about the Norsemen. We’ll  make the games as much fun and as enjoyable for fans as we can.”

Attending St. Cloud State stoked his passion for ice hockey stating “The first SCSU game I went to was a day after my 19th birthday. The Huskies tallied seven goals in the second period, Mark Hartigan scored four of them, and from that point, I was hooked.” Still a fan of the Huskies, Zamora finds the time to make road trips around the country to watch the Huskies play.

Although there will be conflicts in his schedule, no doubt Zamora will be able to make his way to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center for some home Husky hockey games.

With the NAHL Showcase scheduled to begin on September 19th, Zamora will have to hit the ground running for his new employer. The 2021-2022 Central Division regular season champions begin divisional play on Friday, September 23rd hosting the Austin Bruins at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud.
