SCSU’S Donohue, Fitzgerald and Malone Debut 3ICE Professional Hockey League in June

St. Cloud, MN- Why not another professional hockey league? With the apparent popularity of three-on-three play in collegiate and professional hockey, a new league has emerged that will make its debut on June 18th in Las Vegas, NV.

An initial roster release has former Huskies Seamus Donahue and Ryan Malone suiting up for Team (Grant) Fuhr and Kevin Fitzgerald skating for Team (Joe) Mullen.

The new league is called 3ICE and is the brainchild of founder and CEO E. J. Johnston, the son of former NHL goaltender Eddie Johnston.  Johnston spent eight years as an Executive Producer in Los Angeles creating and writing multiple TV series including NBC’s reality competition, Fashion Star, as well as scripted shows for BET and other networks.

Johnston is joined by Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, Craig Patrick (Commissioner) who had an extensive career in the NHL including as General Manager of both the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

The League

The league will consist of six teams named after former NHL greats and they’ll play nine event days from June 18th to August 20th (Championship). The teams will be competing for $2 million in prize money.

Team (Guy) Carbonneau: Jeremy Brodeur, USA (Goalie); JC Campagna, USA; Nick Lalonde, Canada; Samson Mahbod, Canada; Aaron Palushaj, USA; Steven Seigo, Canada; Jordon Southorn, Canada.

Team (Grant) Fuhr: Seamus Donohue, USA; Peter Lenes, USA; Mike Lundin, USA; Ryan Malone, USA; Matt Petgrave, Canada; Ty Rimmer, Canada (Goalie); Jeff Taffe, USA.

Team (John) LeClair: Jayce Hawryluk, Canada; TJ Hensick, USA; Alex Kile, USA; Brennan Menell, USA; Tyler Sandhu, Canada; Dalton Skelly, USA; Blake Weyrick, USA (Goalie).

Team (Joe) Mullen: Aaron Berisha, Canada; Kevin Fitzgerald, USA; Rob Flick, Canada; Connor LaCouvee, Canada (Goalie); Patrick Mullen, USA; Brock Trotter, Canada; Joe Whitney, USA.

There will also be a “Taxi Squad of additional players to be named.

The Rules

1. They will utilize the 3-on-3 overtime format as the full-time format. Three skaters plus a goalie for each team.

2. Games consist of two 8-minute halves with a running clock (The clock stops only for penalties and injuries).

3. Six Teams in the league, each with six skaters plus one goalie.

4. Each tour stop will have six games: three games in the opening round, then two semi-finals, then a championship game (It all takes place in 3 hours or less)

5. There will be no power-plays, instead they go straight to a penalty shot and the coaches get to pick the shooter.

6. There is no overtime, instead, they go to one-round shootouts until a winner is determined.

7. Goalies can play the puck anywhere on the ice.

8. If the puck comes off the netting above the glass and back into play, they keep playing.

9. There are no coach’s challenges or instant replay for offsides.
