St. Cloud, MN – The SCSU Huskies have been busy this past week. The transfer portal has yielded goaltender Dominic Basse from Colorado College and forward Grant Cruikshank of the Gophers. Indications are now that top Union College defenseman, Dylan Anhorn is the next transfer to don the cardinal and black for the 2022-23 season.
Anhorn, a native of Calgary, Alberta is a 6’0″ 183-pound left-shooting defenseman with three years of eligibility remaining. Technically, he’s been with Union College for three years but the school suspended hockey during the 2020-21 season due to the pandemic. The program has been in flux since the resignation of long-time head coach Rick Bennett in January. Coincidentally, the school just announced Bennett’s replacement on April 15th.
Anhorn had a highly successful two years at Union College being awarded the Freshman Athletic Prize in 2019-20 which is awarded to a first-year male athlete for attitude, ability, participation and achievement in intercollegiate sports. He was also named the men’s hockey team’s Rookie of the Year and earned ECAC Hockey All-Rookie honors during his first collegiate season after ranking third on the team with six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 37 games.
As mentioned, the school suspended play for 2020-21 but this past season Anhorn was named assistant captain and in 37 games produced 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points as Union finished 7th in the ECAC conference. Particularly impressive was Anhorn’s nine points in his last six contests in 2021-22.
Previous to Union College, Anhorn had an impactful two years for the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL producing 10 goals and 42 assists for 52 points in 113 games.
The Huskies are gaining a defenseman that has an aggressive offensive game from the blue line and is a dynamic, fluid skater. He is good in transition and a good playmaker from the point. In two seasons he’s collected 13 goals and 36 points. It’s expected he’ll give the Huskies a defenseman with similar capabilties to recently departed Seamus Donohue.
Most notably, in addition to Donohue, the Huskies saw the departure of offensive-minded senior Nick Perbix who has signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning of the NHL. Senior defenseman, Spencer Meier and Brendan Bushy have announced they’ll return for a fifth season.
It’s possible the Huskies could add one more forward from the portal prior to the 2022-23 season.
