St. Cloud, MN – Five SCSU hockey commits have cracked the lineups of the United States Hockey League rosters for the opening day of the season that begins this Thursday, November 5th. The players are listed by age along with their current team;

Mason Salquist (3/21/00) 5’9′ 170 Forward – Grand Forks, ND  | Fargo Force
Notes: Determined, team leader will be counted on to provide offense for the Force this season. Expected to join the Huskies in 2021.

Josh Luedtke (9/29/00) 5’9″ 176 Defense – Minnetonka, MN | Des Moines Buccaneers
Notes: Highly skilled, quick, mobile defenseman will log lots of minutes for the Bucs this season. Former Denver recruit will join the Huskies in 2021.

Aaron Randazzo (5/31/01) 6’0″ 174 Goaltender – Annapolis, MD
Notes: the well-traveled 19 year-old has played in the SJHL, USHL and the NAHL. Had a solid 33 save outing in the Sioux Falls Stampede’s first pre-season game yet did not make the opening day roster. Experienced goaltender needs to latch on to another team for 2020-21. Could be a Husky as early as th 2021-22 season.

11/5/2020 UPDATE: Randazzo has been claimed by the Green Bay Gamblers and is on their roster.

Grant Ahcan (5/18/02) 5’11” 154 Forward – Burnsville, MN | Chicago Steel
Notes: High hockey IQ forward is the brother of former Husky Jack Ahcan. Was scheduled to play for Cedar Rapids until they placed the club on furlough for the 2020-21 season. Likely to hit the SCSU roster in 2022.

Jack Peart (5/15/03) 5’11” 174 Defense – Grand Rapids, MN | Fargo Force
Notes: Ultra-talented 17 year-old defenseman will start the season as the top defenseman for the Force. Another mobile, skilled defenseman that can transition the puck quickly. It’s hard to believe he won’t be in a Husky jersey in 2021 as an 18 year-old.

Max Montes (9/1/03) 5’8″ 146 Forward –  Waukesha, WI | Dubuque Fighting Saints
Notes: Skilled, quick sniper has cracked the Fighting Saints roster as a 17 year-old. Has excelled at every level he’s played and will gain valuable experience in the USHL this season. Expect Montes to join Ahcan as a first-year player in 2022.

Another player that was on a pre-season roster but not on an opening day rosters is:

Evan Bushy (3/26/02) 6’0″ 183 Defense – Thief River Falls, MN
Notes: The brother of current Husky Brendan Bushy logged 14 games in the USHL last season. He was selected by the Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL in their supplemental draft in May. Another puck-moving defenseman as a future Husky. He will begin the season with the Minnesota Wilderness and should be a top defender for them.

11/5/2020 UPDATE: Randazzo has been claimed by the Green Bay Gamblers and is on their roster.

Also, of note is that former SCSU Head Coach Bob Motzko’s son Mack Motzko has made the opening day roster for the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede. Motzko had 29 goals and 31 assists for 60 points in 27 games for St. Cloud Cathedral High School in 2019-20.
