St. Cloud, MN – It’s been a while since the St. Cloud State University Huskies have rostered a player from the prestigious Notre Dame Hounds hockey program in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. Recognized as one of Canada’s top amateur development programs, it combines an amazing tradition of hockey success with an emphasis on academic excellence at Athol Murray College Preparatory School. Andrew Gordon was the last player to skate for the Huskies from this famed school competing for the Huskies for three seasons from 2004-2007 after two seasons with the Notre Dame Hounds. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native was a member of the 100 point club in just three seasons scoring 51 goals and adding 51 assists for 102 points. A draft choice pf the Washington Capitals, Gordon has had an extensive professional career in the ECHL, AHL and played 55 games in the National Hockey  league. For the past few seasons he has played in the Swedish Hockey League (SweHL.).

On July 13th, it was announced that former Alexandria, MN  High School goaltender Aaron Randazzo has committed to the SCSU Huskies. “FCA Hockey Advisors is excited to announce that Advisory Player Aaron Randazzo has committed to play his college hockey at St. Cloud State University!”. Randazzo, who just turned 17 in May, is a 6″0″ 177 pound left-catching goaltender who played 15 games for the Alexandria Cardinals as a freshman in 2016-17 and  21 games for The Notre Dame Hounds AAA Midget program competing in the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League (SMHL). Randazzo posted outstanding numbers compiling a 1.62 GAA and .920 SV% in 21 regular season games and 1.00 GAA and .951 SV% in 4 Telus Cup playoff games.

Considered one of Canada’s prestigious championships, the Cup represents the champion of the National Midget Tournament. Randazzo was a key component of this championship making 29 saves in the title game vs Cantonniers de Magog (Quebec).  Neutral Zone, a prominent scouting and player ranking service gave Randazzo an “A” ranking for his performance in the Telus Cup. They stated ” Has good size and very good mobility. He plays with a lot of confidence as he comes out and challenges the shooter. He’s had a great week (in the Telus Cup) winning all 4 games and only giving up 4 goals. He had no glaring weaknesses as he is a very sound goalie”.

Randazzo was also recently invited to the 2018 USA Hockey Development Camp in Buffalo, NY and received a “B’ ranking from Neutral Zone. They commented ” He reads the play well, gets in position and sits and stays square with the shooter. He doesn’t have any unnecessary movement. He was calm and focused and made difficult saves look routine. With his size and technical ability he has a bright future ahead.”

Randazzo is currently competing for a position with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League for 2018-19. It is estimated he could join the Huskies for the 2020-21 season.

This is an intriguing commit for the Huskies in a player who has seen a great deal of success as a youngster. His upside and development is certainly something to keep an eye on for the next few seasons. An athletic goaltender who appears to have made the Dubuque Fighting Saints roster as a high school aged junior is very impressive.
