Mobile, puck-moving defenseman, Jack Peart of Grand Rapids, MN announced via Twitter today of his commitment to St. Cloud State University. He announced, “Honored to announce my commitment to play college hockey at St. Cloud State University. Thanks to my teammates, family, and coaches.”

The ’03 birth-date Peart has been opening eyes in hockey circles and was recently ranked as a top-ten American player eligible to be drafted by Canada’s Western Hockey League in their recent draft. Typically, US players do not go that route preferring to play in the United States. Neutral Zone, a well-known ranking and profiling service recently noted “A heady offensive defender who lacks size but not strength or power. He shows a tremendous amount of puck poise, eyes are always up, waiting out defenders for lanes to open or quickly finding teammates from long distance. Not afraid to rush the puck up ice, Peart is always involved in the offense. He has a hard shot but accuracy isn’t always a strength, but he gets his chances every view we saw. Nearly every puck touch is a positive one with Jack. Defends very well, smart angles, active stick, in shooting lanes, strong awareness, and ability to separate players off the puck with stick or body. He plays the style the game calls for. Another early NCAA commit player and USNTDP Camp invite.” Further, Neutral Zone had him ranked as one of three “A” rated Minnesota players at defense in their “Top 55 rankings.” If one was to characterize his game it does show similarities to UMD’s outstanding young defenseman, Scott Perunovich. However, time will tell if that comparison will stick.

Peart is the second Grand Rapids player to commit to SCSU joining former Grand Rapids High School star and forward Micah Miller who will be joining the Huskies this season. Miller competed for the Sioux City Musketeers in 2017-18.

In throwing his commitment to the Huskies Peart told me “they have a great coaching staff and a great program and (St. Cloud is) just a great hockey town in general”.
