SCSU’s Schuldt a Top Ten Finalist for the Hobey Baker Award

St. Cloud, MN – It was announced by the Hobey Baker Award committee on March 14th that SCSU Junior Captain Jimmy Schuldt was named as a top ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. SCSU’s outstanding defenseman is currently in the midst of a career year for the #1 ranked SCSU Huskies who are a lock as a number seed for the NCAA tournament. The junior from Minnetonka, MN is racking up the awards this season including NCHC All-Conference 1st Team, NCHC Player of the Year Finalist, NCHC Offensive Defenseman of the Year Finalist and now top ten finalist for this prestigious award. Schuldt is having a season rivaling and exceeding what Denver’s outstanding defenseman and last year’s Hobey Baker winner Will Butcher compiled last season. Schuldt’s numbers exceed Butcher’s in points, power play goals and game-winning goals. Schuldt is currently third in team points with 10 goals and 28 assists for 38 points. He is also +21 and has 2 game-winning goals and 8 power play goals. His 38 points currently has him third in the nation for points by a defenseman. To top things off, the finance major has a 3.74 GPA.

The Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation is 501(c)3 non-profit corporation committed to the advancement of athletic achievement, character, and sportsmanship in college and high school hockey. It was established in 1991 and is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Foundation annually recognizes college hockey’s most outstanding player through the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, named for the early twentieth century athlete widely regarded to be the first great American hockey player. Established in 1981, the award’s unique criteria include strength of character, sportsmanship, and academic achievement as well as excellence on the ice—the characteristics embodied by Hobey Baker in his lifetime. The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is college hockey’s most prestigious award.

This year’s Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced Friday, April 6, 2018 from St. Paul, MN during the NCAA Frozen Four. The 38th annual announcement will be streamed on the Hobey website: http://www.hobeybaker.com/streams.
