Kalamazoo, MI – The SCSU Huskies have been good in the third period thus far this season. They’ve outscored their opponents 47-23 entering this series. Their third period dominance shined again in the Saturday rematch rallying with three goals in a crucial 4-2 road win over the Western Michigan Broncos. All three Poehling brothers combined for the game tying goal and Mikey Eyssimont finished things off with two goals to improve SCSU’s overall record to 20-6-4 and NCHC record to 14-4-2. The win assured that they retain at least a two-point lead over Denver in the league standings. The Huskies will also retain the #1 ranking in the all-important Pairwise.
A scoreless first period had the Huskies outshooting the Broncos 15-13 and going 0 for 1 on the only power play of the period. With a five-minute checking from behind call on WMU’s Brett Van Os 2:45 into period two, the Huskies capitalized quickly with Easton Brodzinski’s 12th goal of the season and second goal in two nights. The Huskies were unable to get anything additional going on the balance of the man-advantage possibly a little stunned by the short-handed goal by WMU. WMU carred a one-goal lead into period three having been outshot 11-8 in period two.

On a rush up ice, Nick Poehling fed Ryan Poehling who dished the puck off to Jack Poehling who beat WMU’s Cain with a wrist shot from the left circle. The Huskies captured another key goal at 11:19 by Mikey Eyssimont. With the Broncos Luke Bafia in the penalty box for interference, the Huskies converted in less than a minute. Eyssimont (Ahcan | Jackson) , who was stationed in the right circle fielded a pass from Ahcan and he beat Cain with a shot from the top of the right dot for a 3-2 SCSU lead. Eyssimont (Newell | B Lizotte) struck again at 18:39 with an empty net goal as the Broncos were attempting to create a late rally of their own. A penalty to Dawson DiPietro at 19:20 wrapped things up for the Huskies and a five-point road weekend.
