SCSU coach Bob Motzko may have one his players as an adversary in the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championships taking place in Buffalo, NY from December 26 to January 5. SCSU first-year goaltender David Hrenak was informed last week that he was invited to join the Slovakian team at their final camp starting on December 16 in Rochester, NY. Hrenak, a 19 year-old from Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia has a substantial resume representing Slovakia on their international teams including the Slovakia U17 WHC, U18 World Junior Challenge, Team Slovakia U20 and Slovakia U20 World Junior Challenge.
Hrenak commented “I’m really excited I can go and I will try and enjoy it and do my best. I will have to work hard. Probably coach (Motzko) will not like it but I’m going… to beat USA”. Hrenak is one of three goaltenders invited to the Rochester camp.
Hrenak has had an outstanding start to his collegiate career with a 5-1-0 record, 1.82 GAA and .947 SV%. His save percentage is currently the second best in all of college hockey.
