St. Cloud, MN – A week after a frustrating series being swept by Denver, the Huskies returned home to mount a dominant effort over first-place Colorado College by a 6-1 score.  The Huskies scored three times in period one, outshot the Tigers 46-22 and pretty much had their way with a CC team that has been playing some pretty good hockey thus far this season. Six different players scored for SCSU including Blake Lizotte who finally netted his first collegiate goal. Another first-year player, Easton Brodzinski had a goal and an assist in a strong effort and was named the games #1 star.

The Huskies went to work in the first period scoring three times to take a lead they never relinquished. Easton Brodzinski (R Poehling | Schuldt) scored his second goal of the year at 6:45 of period one. Poehling fed Brodzinski from behind the goal and Brodzinski one-timed the puck past CC’s Leclerc for a 1-0 SCSU lead. Next, Will Borgen (B Lizotte | Benson) got on the score sheet at 13:42 with his first goal of the season. A nice three-way pass between Benson, Lizotte and Borgen ended as the game-winning goal for the Huskies. Patrick Newell rounded out the scoring at 14:01 of period one with his first goal of the year. Newell (Peterson | J Lizotte) led the play into the Tiger zone and followed his initial shot towards the net with a shot that beat Leclerc and ended his night in goal. Leclerc was replaced by Alec Calvaruso who was seeing his first minutes of the season. SCSU outshot the Tigers 13-7 in a period clearly being dominated by the Huskies by periods end.

After failing on their second man-advantage of the game, the Huskies finally added their fourth goal at 14:16 by senior Blake Winiecki. Winiecki (Borgen | Schuldt) fielded a rebound off a shot by Will Borgen and beat Calvaruso from the left circle. In a period without a lot of push back by the Tigers SCSU outshot CC 22-5. The Huskies were winning nearly all races to the puck and controlling puck posession for lengthy periods of time in the CC zone.

The Huskies scored quickly in the third period as Robby Jackson (Brodznski | R Poehling) scored his fifth of the year. Easton Brodzinski made a nice centering pass to Jackson from the side of the goal and Jackson buried it for a 5-0 Husky lead. The Tigers finally beat Jeff Smith at 3:37 of the final period on the power play with a goal by Cloquet, MN native Westin Michaud. It was Michaud’s fourth goal of the year and made it a 5-1 game. SCSU wrapped up their scoring for the night at 12:01 on a nice wraparound goal by Blake Lizotte for his first career goal as a Husky.  Lizotte (Eyssimont | Benson) carried the puck aound the back of the CC goal and curled it past Calvaruso while on his knees for the 6-1 final. SCSU outshot CC 11-10 in the final session.

SCSU outshot Colorado College 46 to 22 for the contest. Alex Leclerc stopped 7/10 SCSU shots before being removed from the game at 14:01 of period one. His replacement, Alec Calvaruso stopped 33/36 SCSU shots on goal . Jeff Smith turned aside 21/22 SOG in earning his fifth win of the season. Frustration continues for the Huskies on the power play as they went 0/3. They are now 1/14 in the last three games. The Tigers were 1/4 on their man-advantage opportunities.
