Another future Husky made a commitment via twitter on October 2nd as Des Moines Buccaneers forward Sam Hentges announced ” Proud to announce my commitment to play hockey at St. Cloud State University! Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way!” The 6’0″ 175 pound forward is a native of Fridley, MN and was a three-year player for Totino-Grace H.S, prior to joining the Buccaneers. Hentges was drafted #237 in round 5 of the 2017 Phase II USHL Draft.
The right-handed shooting Hentges was captain of Totino-Grace in 2016-17 and compiled 46 goals and 57 assists for 103 points in his three-year career. In 2016-17 he had 29 goals and 21 assists for 50 points in just 23 games including 7 power play goals to lead his squad. His 29 goals placed him 15th in the state in that category.
A skilled forward possessing good speed and the ability to bury the puck, Hentges has already made an impact early on in the exhibition season with the USHL’s Bucs. He opened some eyes during the USHL’s Fall Classic recently and was named a 4 star prospect by amateur scouting service Neutral Zone.
Hentges most likely will hit campus in St. Cloud during the 2019-20 season.
