The SCSU Huskies have received a commitment from another local player as forward Nate Warner of St. Cloud Cathedral announced via Twitter on September 15 that he has committed to the Huskies. Warner wrote “Proud to announce my commitment to play hockey at St. Cloud State University. Thanks to everyone who helped along the way.”
Warner, a 5’10” 178 pound left-handed forward will be entering his sophomore year at Cathedral in 2017-18. He had an outstanding freshman year for the Crusaders compiling 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points in 24 games. He also had a solid performance in the 2017 Class A Minnesota State High School State Tournament picking up 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points in three games.
Amateur scouting service Neutral Zone noted ” He thinks the game well and knows what he’s going to do with the puck before he gets it and has the smooth hands and fluid stride to make any play he wants to.” Warner has several years of development ahead of him but is projected to have a great deal of upside potential.
Warner was drafted by the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL at #74 in round 5 of the 2017 Futures Draft. It’s likely Warner could join the Huskies for the 2021-22 season.
