St. Cloud, MN – The SCSU Huskies have added another defenseman to the shopping cart with the commitment of Holy Family Catholic’s Brady Ziemer. The Hutchinson, MN native announced via twitter on June 14 ” Proud to announce my commitment to play DI hockey at St. Cloud State University. Thanks to everyone who has helped along the way.”
The 5’10” 170 pound right-handed shooting defenseman has been a three-year player for Holy Family Catholic. In 72 games, he has compiled 12 goals and 37 assists for 49 points and 22 PIM. Ziemer was drafted with the 50th pick in the 4th round of the 2016 USHL draft by the Des Moines Buccaneers. Ziemer looks to be a key defenseman for the Des Moines squad for the 2017-18 USHL season.
Generally known as a stay at home defender, Ziemer is described as a very strong, competitive player and a good shot blocker. Amateur scouting site Neutral Zone described ” Not great size but very strong. Plays an old school type of game on the blue line. (He’s) hard on pucks and tough to play against. Will be physical and plays with an edge. Offensively, stays at home but can provide offense with a heavy shot from the point.”
Ziemer was coached by former SCSU Husky forward Noel Rahn (1991-93) currently the head coach at Holy Family Catholic. Rahn earned his 100th victory as coach at Holy Family this past season.
Look for Ziemer to a 2018 or 2019 addition to the Huskies roster.
