NHL Central Scouting Includes Huskies in Mid-Term Ranking

NHL Central Scouting has released their mid-term rankings for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and it includes several current and future Huskies on the North American list. Most prominent on the ranking is current SCSU first-year forward Ryan Poehling who is projected as a first round pick and ranked #14 on their list. Poehling, who just turned 18, finished his high school academic curriculum early and decided to forgo his senior year of high school at Lakeville North to join brother Nick and Jack Poehling on the SCSU squad. The 6’2″ 185 pound forward currently has four goals and three assists for seven points including one game-winning goal and one power play goal.

Next on the NHL list is first-year defenseman, Jack Ahcan who recently helped Team USA capture the Gold Medal in the 2017 World Junior Championships held in Toronto and Montreal. Last years USHL Defenseman of the Year has had an outstanding start to his rookie year currently fourth in points for the Huskies with 5-11-16 in 18 games including 3 game-winning goals, 2 power play goals and +1. The 5’8″ 184 defenseman is currently ranked 124th on the North American list projecting him as a 4th round pick. Ahcan is in his second year of eligibility for the draft and was by-passed for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Recruit, Micah Miller has signed his letter of intent to play hockey at St. Cloud State University and is currently competing for the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks of the Minnesota State High School League. The 5’9″ 181 pound speedster is having an outstanding season thus far with 15 goals and 27 assists for 42 points in just 16 games. He also skated for the Sioux City Musketeers  of the USHL prior to the high school season and in 15 games had one goal and six assists. Miller is currently ranked 157th placing him as a projected six round pick.

Another committed future Husky, Nick Perbix, a 6″3″ 195 pound defenseman is listed 187th on the North American list projecting him as a seventh round NHL pick. Currently a senior at Elk River (MN) High School, Perbix is leading his squad in scoring with 5 goals and 19 assists for 24 points in 15 games. This includes three power play goals and one game-winning goal. It is anticipated Perbix will play for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL following his senior season of hockey.
