Charlie Lindgren posted his second shut out in as many games and the SCSU offense continues to find  scoring as the Huskies blanked Minnesota State University Mankato 4-0 at the HBNHC on Friday.
 
David Morley gave the Huskies the early lead at 10:55 of period one scoring  from the goal mouth. The play was started on a wide drive to the net by Jimmy Murray who made a goalmouth pass to Joey Benik  whose shot on net ended up in front of Morley who tapped it in.  Lindgren came up big in the late stages  of period one after Ryan Papa was called for closing his hand on the puck in the crease with 17 seconds to play. But, it was Lindgren who stood tall and stopped MSU’s Brad McClure on the penalty shot. The Huskies extended their lead to two goals in period two on a rocket of a  shot by first-year   defenseman, Jimmy Schuldt. at 10:55. Parked at the point Schuldt took a feed from Niklas Nevalainen and he one-timed the shot past Mavericks goaltender Cole Huggins for a two-goal lead.  The second assist was awarded to Ben Storm.
 
SCSU scoring continued in period three on a goal by Patrick Russell, his first of the year.  Kalle Kossila threw the puck on net and in a scramble, Russell slapped the puck in on a backhand shot from the side of the net for a 3-0 SCSU lead. The Huskies finished their scoring at 14:32 of the third period with a goal from Kalle Kossila. Patrick Russell returned the favor with an assist on a wrist shot from the outside edge of the right circle that beat Huggins over his right shoulder. This was Kossila’s first goal of the season and Russell’s third assist and fourth point in three games.
 
The Huskies outshot Mankato 33-30. SCSU goaltender Charlie Lindgren was outstanding stoppng all 30 MSU shots on goal.  MSU’s Cole Huggins stopped 29/33 on the evening.  Both teams were 0/1 on the power play and as mentioned, MSU failed to score on their penalty shot late in period one.
