The Huskies re-grouped after yielding a two-goal lead to snatch victory from the hands of defeat in a 4-3 win over #5 ranked Omaha at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Friday. SCSU took a 2-0 first period lead on power play goals by Ethan Prow and Patrick Russell and were in clear control of the game. The Huskies took advantage of a five minute major to Jono Davis for a check from behind and scored their first goal at 8:16 of the first period on a shot from the point by Ethan Prow. Joey Benik passed the puck back to Kalle Kossila who tipped the pass back to Prow who buried it from the point. The Huskies increased the lead to 2-0 on a power play goal by Patrick Russell who tipped an Ethan Prow shot on goal past UNO netminder Ryan Massa. UNO cut the lead to 2-1 on the only goal of the second period by Ian Brady on the power play at 18:14. UNO struck again at 9:26 of the third period on a nice three-way passing play between Justin Parizek, Ian Brady and Tyler Vesel who scored his 7th goal of the year. Omaha took the lead on a quick goal off a faceoff by Austin Ortega, his 17th goal of the season. Then, in a crazy end to the game, Blake Winiecki scored on a wicked wrist shot that beat Massa high to tie the game at 18:56. Assists were to Joe Rehkamp and Andrew Prochno. Sixteen seconds later David Morley knocked in a rebound in a goal mouth scramble for a 4-3 SCSU lead. The lone assist was credited to Joey Benik. SCSU outshot UNO 39-26 in the game including a 17-7 advantage in the third period. SCSU goaltender Charlie Lindgren turned aside 23/26 SOG while Ryan massa of UNO stopped 35/39 SOG. Both squads were 2/3 on the man-advantage. The win propelled SCSU to #14 in the Pairwise.
