A New Start…. of Sorts

Hano_BSUGreetings. This is a new endeavor of sorts. It gives me the “excuse” to utilize the thousands of college hockey images I’ve accumulated over the past 20 years and place them in a format that will hopefully tell some stories for those that have an interest in Husky Hockey tradition. With no formal photography or journalistic training (although my first short-lived declared major in College was journalism), I make no claims to anything other than to try to make these posts interesting to the casual or serious college hockey fan. Well wait, there is one claim I can make that I can be certain about. I have attended more SCSU Division I hockey games than anyone on the planet.

By design, my approach will be a simple, uncluttered and an easy to access blog for a quick read about SCSU Hockey and other college hockey teams/items of interest. In other words, a comfortable read in a format that is hopefully a departure from other sites you may currently frequent. Being a college hockey fan, hockey player, amateur photographer and amateur web designer I’m hoping to relate through my photos and personal insight an enjoyable experience for the reader.

I’ve selected as my first photo one of my all-time favorites. This is a photo of former Husky Ben Hanowski (now of the Calgary Flames organization) charging to the BSU net and going airborn as he attempts to finesse the puck past the Bemidji State goaltender. This photo was taken from about 200 feet away with a relatively inexpensive Canon SX40. I guess I got lucky and captured the action at nearly the perfect time.

By the way, Hanowski, the Little Falls native has started off the year with some offensive pop picking up 5 points in his first 5 games for Abbotsford, the Flames AHL minor league affiliate. More here http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=120945
